It does not matter what type of substance abuse treatment you are involved with, the goal remains the same: to eliminate the abuse once and for all.

During inpatient drug rehab, learn about counselling options.

  1. Follow direction. The people at the facility are available to help. They want to see you beat your addiction, so make sure you take their guidance every step of the way.
  2. Ask questions. You have the right to ask as many questions as you want, as this is the best way to learn more about your situation and what to expect.
  3. Consider all your options. During your stint in rehab, you will be presented with a variety of options, all of which are beneficial in some way. Consider each and every one very carefully.
  4. Don’t shy away from medication. There are many types of medication that can make you feel better during withdrawal. Learn more about each one and consider what it can do for you.
  5. Learn about counseling and therapy. At some point, you will have access to both counseling and therapy sessions. You should consider what this could do for you as somebody going through the recovery process.
  6. Involve your family. There is nothing wrong with involving your family during the entire process, as this can improve your chance of success. You need a strong support system.
  7. Don’t get frustrated. It takes time to beat a drug addiction. If you stay on the course provided by the rehab facility, you will eventually reach your goal.
  8. Use your time wisely. You have been given the opportunity to take back your life. Take advantage of this time.
  9. Meet others. You are not the only person fighting an addiction. Don’t shy away from making friends with others who are facing a similar situation. It helps to realize that you are not alone.
  10. Work toward your discharge. With each passing day, you are closer to being discharged. This is your final goal. Keep this in mind during both good and bad times, as it will power you forward.

By following these 10 tips, you should be able to have more success in an inpatient drug rehab program.
